part of the freedom train, first whole train

Excerpt by Ven...
This week the MTA retired the last of the R-40 slants. I find it ironic in timing with the passing of IZ The Wiz(RIP) that the remaining R-40's were put to rest this week after almost 40 years in service. IZ was for sure the all time king of these cars which predominately rode on the A & B line in the early 80's to mid 80's. The A was IZ's home line.
When I read the news of the retirement of these cars I became more saddened about the passing of IZ as I remember when I first started benching these train cars at Hoyt and Schemehorn in 1984 how much he was up on them.
Though most writers preferred the flats Ven happened to love painting these cars more. This car was painted in 57st layup as the first attempt to doing a whole train with RIS crew in 1987. Workers came in to pull it out while working on the fill in. The workers were chill and let them continue for few minutes until they pulled it out. So theyonly had a few minutes to throwup and outline, hence why this is very sloppy.
Most of the R-40's have been reefed in the Atlantic Ocean. A few still permanently out of service awaiting to meet the sea in the 207st yard.
